Bear in mind that I live in Vegas where it's hot...105+ over the last month. When I bought the bike (a 96 model), I had to choke it to start it and keep it running for the first 5 minutes. After removing the spacer, installing K&N filter, HD muffler, 160 main jet, and turning out the mixture screw 3 turns from closed, I don't use the choke at all. Just start it up, let it idle for a couple minutes, then go. In my view, the bike comes from the factory starving for fuel in order to run "clean". This high-performance engine is waiting to be "opened up" in terms of air and fuel. I burn premium and believe that it makes a difference, especially in hot climates.
